By addressing gaps in emergency care and supporting families and caregivers, Veli is working to make homes safer and more connected. Tell us the story of Veli: What do you do exactly, and how did you find your way to it?

In Germany, over six million seniors live alone and rely on external assistance during emergencies. However, traditional emergency solutions often fall short—they require constant use or depend on additional sensors installed at home.

Our founder, Tim Weiß, saw the critical need for a better solution firsthand. "When my grandmother fell, she wasn’t wearing her emergency call button and couldn’t raise the alarm herself. She wasn’t found until it was too late."

This experience inspired Veli: an AI-powered technology that transforms a household into a safety net. Veli’s cloud-based solution analyzes data from existing electricity and water meters to learn a resident’s daily routine.

How does it work?

Daily activities—like turning on a light at 7:00, making breakfast, or washing up—create recognizable usage patterns. By monitoring these, Veli detects deviations that could signal emergencies or support needs. Caregivers, family members, or emergency call centers are notified immediately.

Veli is entirely sensor-free, leveraging digital smart meters already standard in most homes. The system is self-learning and requires no active input, making it a seamless and invisible part of daily life.

Beyond emergencies, Veli offers services like “Prevention” and “Energy-conscious Living”. It can identify early signs of health changes or help reduce energy costs, giving families peace of mind while addressing sustainability goals. Companies adopting Veli also contribute to meeting ESG criteria, aligning with modern corporate responsibility standards.

What led you to join TechQuartier?

We joined TechQuartier through the Fundraising Readiness Program to prepare for our first seed round. With guidance from our coach, Markus Krückemeier, we successfully secured funding to support our mission.

Being part of TechQuartier has opened doors to invaluable connections and insights from the vibrant startup ecosystem. The collaborative atmosphere and idea exchange have been instrumental in refining our strategies and accelerating our growth.

Exciting News

At the end of last year, we celebrated a major milestone: closing our first financing round! With €800,000 secured from BM H Beteiligungs-Managementgesellschaft Hessen mbH and prominent business angels, we’re poised for the next phase of growth.

Veli, founded in 2023 by Dr. Jan-Peter Seevers, Maximilian Schnettler, and Tim Weiß from the University of Kassel, blends years of expertise in energy data analysis and AI-driven innovation to improve assisted living.

With this funding, we’re expanding our team and scaling operations in the service and assisted living sector. Partnerships with organizations like the German Red Cross ensure seamless integration into existing care processes. Investors such as Martina Pfeifer, Olav Sehlbach, and Matthias Sandrock bring expertise to guide our journey.

As Dr. Jan-Peter Seevers explains, "The investment enables us to bring Veli to more facilities, expand our product portfolio, and provide relief for caregivers and families. We’re also strengthening partnerships in the property and smart meter sectors to make Veli the standard for home security."
