You want to open a new bank account or switch your insurance provider, and once again, you’re asked to prove your identity. This time it’s a lengthy video identification call. Next time, it’s a verification code arriving by post days later.

But what if your verified identity could simply travel with you? That’s the promise of Nect, a digital ID wallet which enables secure, quick and easy digital verification, digital signing of contracts, or digital mailings.

As part of our latest TQ Accelerator: Digital Finance 2026, we spoke with Cedric Boy-Beeg, Senior Sales Consultant.

Cedric began his career in the FinTech sector at figo and finleap connect, focusing on open banking and PSD2. He then expanded into the pan-European open banking markets as a Senior Account Executive at Yapily. As Head of Business Development, he was responsible for the international sales of the social investing platform StockRepublic to banks and brokers worldwide. Today, he brings this expertise to Nect, where he shares responsibility for the Banking & Financial Services division.

What problem in the identity verification space frustrated the founders enough to build a solution?

Before founding Nect with Carlo Ulbrich, Benny Bennet Jürgens was an app developer at an insurance company. Users had to wait for an activation letter before they could start using the app, resulting in high drop-off rates during registration. Often, three days would pass between downloading the app and actually using it. They therefore looked for a solution that would work immediately and be as cost-effective as a letter. This was the first step in becoming the largest digital identity wallet, with over 18 million users.

Nect Ident is used by millions of people. What was the biggest challenge in creating a verification process that is both secure and user-friendly?

We build highly secure, AI-driven solutions that verify biometric data and ID documents in full compliance with strict eIDAS requirements. The problem is that aligning technical guidelines and audit catalogs in Germany takes far too long. By the time a standard is finally established, the technology has already evolved. While traditional video identification is still being evaluated here, we are already moving forward with NFC-based processes and Digital Identity Wallets. European standards organizations like ETSI move regulatory processes forward much faster, making them significantly more receptive to new technologies.

What feature or innovation in Nect Ident are you personally most proud of?

We hold three patents and were the first to develop a technology that enables fully automated ID verification while still being suitable for use by highly regulated companies. And we optimise our solutions with the user at the heart of everything we do. We believe this approach is right and important for our customers in the long term. Unlike most of our competitors, we don't just focus on what their customers think or want. With the Nect Wallet, for instance, we have given users the ability to reuse their verified identity as a digital ID. This saves over 18 million users from having to invite a video agent into their living room and fumble around with their ID in front of the camera with vague commands. They can identify themselves, do this 24/7, and do it wherever they are.

What industries are adopting digital identity verification the fastest, and why?

As Nect is the first digital identity provider to achieve the significant security milestone of providing a 'high' level of assurance (LoA) for its ePass identity method, we have been able to secure 100% of statutory health insurance partners in Germany. We are now seeing tremendous interest from the financial sector, which will soon benefit from the new eIDAS 2.0, AML Act and German Digital Identity Act (DIdG) regulations.

They recognise the advantages of fully automated customer onboarding that is highly secure yet cost-effective.

Are there any misconceptions people have about AI-powered identity verification that you'd like to clear up?

AI-generated deepfakes can be more effectively detected using AI, particularly through machine-level computer vision, than with purely human or automated identity verification solutions. Currently, our patented hybrid solution offers the best protection. In this approach, highly

specialised AI analyses the signal in the background, and targeted liveness checks are combined with human verification in suspicious cases.

What excites you most about Nects roadmap?

Our goal is to build the largest digital identity app in Europe that improves citizens’ daily lives and drives genuine digital transformation in Germany and beyond by making it easier to open accounts, renew IDs, submit applications, and so on. To achieve this, we’re operating in a field dominated by very rigid structures and regulations. With our solutions, we want to inspire people to see all the changes and improvements that are possible when you have the courage and perseverance to find new solutions even within the most established systems.

How can the community support Nect beyond simply using the product?

What we need is the courage to implement innovative solutions in heavily regulated sectors. In recent years, the German market has been subject to a regulatory framework that has hindered the growth of many banks and fintech companies compared to those in other European countries. The regulations were highly hostile to innovation and resistant to technology. Investing in innovation in Germany was extremely risky. Moreover, relatively little capital was available for this purpose. The new regulations present a valuable opportunity to capitalize on innovations developed in Germany.

Lastly, what is one question you wish people asked you more often about Nect?

What sets you apart from other providers? Why is Nect more than just a video ID provider? What are the real benefits of a digital identity wallet?
