The digital innovation hub joins the Global Insurtech Roadshow for a second edition of the international startup conference in the EU’s financial capital, featuring Israel as partner country in 2019

FRANKFURT, 7 December, 2018

On March 19th and 20th 2019, the Global Insurtech Roadshow (“GIR19”), one of the world’s premiere startup events focused on early stage InsurTechs, will return for a second edition to Frankfurt. Along with a new anchor partner, Frankfurt-based TechQuartier, the two-day program will feature numerous conferences and panel discussions, an international pitch competition, workshops and networking events for industry insiders and disruptors.

One big update for the 2019 edition, will be the shift of focus from Asia to Israel, presenting InsurTech Israel as flagship partner for this year’s program. Key speakers will include Gabriel Bernardino, Chairman of the European Supervisory Board EIOPA, Dr. Frank Grund, Vice-President of BaFin and the Director General of the Israel Insurance Authority, Dr. Moshe Bareket. The digital Insurance ecosystem will be well represented, with InsurTech-pioneers like Julian Teicke (wefox), Christopher Oster (Clark), Dr. Claudia Lang (CommunityLife), Nick Sühr (Kasko), Erik Abrahamson (Digital Fineprint), Kobi Bendelak (InsurTech Israel) and Sebastian Langrehr (Friendsurance) all participating in 2019. Major topics covered will include CyberInsurance, Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence, as well as an in-depth breakdown of the Israel Insurtech scene.

‘’We are looking for extremely young and innovative international InsurTechs. This is our unique approach. We want earlystagers between seeding and pre-A, having  their first public appearance here in Frankfurt”, says Dr. Moritz Finkelnburg, founder and chairman of the initiative. ‘’Of course, GIR19 will maintain its unique academic, familiar and non-commercial character. We want to build solid relationships between the high-level insurance execs and the up-and-coming startups in the field, which is why we decided to keep the same scope for this year’s event.’’

Based on the huge success of the 2018-edition of its pitch competition, the organizers will once again be selecting 20 international InsurTech startups that will present to the more than 30 large insurers in attendance and compete for the Goethe InsurTech Award. Frankfurt’s digital hub TechQuartier (TQ) will play a major role concerning the support and organization of the Global InsurTech Roadshow 2019. Established in 2016 with Goethe University as a founding member, TQ has since been strongly involved in the local startup scene and has become an important player for corporates wishing to tap into its Fintech expertise. TechQuartier and Frankfurt were together named Germany’s Fintech Hub as part of the Digital Hub Initiative (de:hub) run by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.

‘’We are extremely happy to be onboard this year’s edition of the Global Insurtech Roadshow. After two years of working with disruptive Fintechs aiming to revolutionize the banking sector, we feel like Insurance is another industry ripe for change, in areas of technology we are very familiar with’’ said Sebastian Schaefer, Managing Director of TechQuartier. ‘’As we ramp up our InsurTech capabilities and look to build our own

Insurtech acceleration program in 2019, the Insurtech Roadshow was for us the perfect opportunity to meet all the key stakeholders at once.’’

One of the key stakeholders will once again be the Federal State of Hessen, who will be the official patron of the Roadshow.

The detailed program will be published on the conference homepage :
